Mussoorie is a hill station and a municipal board in the Dehradun District of the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand.,it is located about 35 km from the state capital of Dehradun and 290 km north from the national capital of New Delhi. This hill station, situated in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan ranges, is also known as the Queen of the Hills. The adjoining town of Landour, which includes a military cantonment, is considered part of ‘greater Mussoorie’, as are the townships of Barlowganj and Jharipani.

Day 01 :

Haridwar to Mussooriee

Morning:

Departure from Haridwar to Mussoorie by taxi or private vehicle.

Distance: Approximately 90-100 km, around 3-4 hours of travel.

Route: Haridwar → Rishikesh → Chamba → Dhanaulti → Mussoorie.

Afternoon:

Check-in to your hotel in Mussoorie.

Rest after your long drive.

Evening:

Mall Road: Stroll along Mall Road, enjoy local shopping, cafes, and street food.

Gun Hill: Ride the cable car to Gun Hill for a beautiful view of Mussoorie.

Dinner at a local restaurant or the hotel.

Day 02 :

Full Day Sightseeing in Mussoorie

Morning:

Kempty Falls (15 km from Mussoorie): Early morning visit to the famous waterfall for a refreshing start.

Camel's Back Road: Take a scenic walk along this 3 km stretch with amazing views of the Himalayas.

Afternoon:

Lal Tibba (5 km): Visit the highest point in Mussoorie for panoramic views. There’s a telescope point for a clearer view of the snow-clad peaks.

Mussoorie Lake: After Lal Tibba, enjoy a peaceful boat ride at the artificial Mussoorie Lake.

Lunch at a local café with a view.

Evening:

Sisters Bazaar: Explore this colorful market for souvenirs, handicrafts, and local products.

Company Garden: A lush garden with small artificial lakes and amusement rides.

Dinner at a hilltop restaurant, overlooking the valley.

Day 03 :

Day Trip to Dhanaulti & Surroundings

Morning:

Early breakfast, and head to Dhanaulti (25 km from Mussoorie), a quiet, serene hill station.

Visit Surkhanda Devi Temple: You can either trek or take a taxi to the temple. The hike is short but offers scenic views.

Afternoon:

Visit the Eco Park in Dhanaulti, which is perfect for nature walks and peaceful moments away from the crowds.

Have lunch at a local restaurant in Dhanaulti.

Evening:

Return to Mussoorie and relax at the hotel.

If you’re in the mood, visit Cloud’s End, a peaceful spot offering beautiful landscapes.

Dinner at your hotel or a nearby restaurant.

Day 04 :

Local Exploration & Return to Haridwar

Morning:

Visit Jwala Devi Temple, known for its religious importance and beautiful hilltop views.

If you're interested in a small trek, you can visit The Happy Valley, which has Tibetan temples and monasteries.

Afternoon:

Lunch in Mussoorie.

You can also visit The Landour Clock Tower, an old landmark, and explore the old British architecture of Landour.

Evening:

After a final stroll on Mall Road, check out from your hotel and start your return journey to Haridwar.

Departure by taxi in the late afternoon to reach Haridwar by evening.

How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will too, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay a certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, a hot water facility could be free at a lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason.

It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.
